He's had a number of encounters with the law, and is currently awaiting trial on charges of drunken manslaughter for allegedly contributing to the death of other Cowboys athlete Jerry Brown.
"This is the right thing to do for me, and one which I've given long time to think about," Brent said. "I'm at a point in my life where my main focus is setting priorities in my life in order. Priorities more important than football."
KD Drummond from Blogging the Boys is of the opinion that that this was the best choice for Brent as it should assist in clearing his head. It should also eliminate a couple of other problems which were surfacing when Brent played on in the midst of off-field issues, according to Drummond.
The Cowboys will no longer be burdened with the task of extending help to a player even in the face prison time, could not stop his from breaking the law again, regardless of how insignificant one might think of smoking marijuana.
Brent's actions may be seen as him stepping his responsibility for the situation he finds himself in and realizing the gravity of the issue he's confronted with.
