The first time World of Warcraft , the live-action live-action film based upon the MMORPG video game series and novel, was released in theaters in the year 2016 and was not the box office or critical popular film that many were hoping for. Two decades later, the movie's director has clarified why that could be the case.
In an interview on Syfy on behalf of his upcoming Netflix film, Mute --which is being described as something other than a smash hit--Duncan Jones was extremely open about the troubling production. According to the trailer the film's production appears to be very contentious.
" World of Warcraft was an issue of politics as regards filmmaking. And I think a lot of the editing that was done period of making the film was extremely, very difficult and at times disheartening," he says. "Just being forced to make compromises and changes just due to the politics and the nature of that film. So, it was quite heartbreaking. But I've learned so much and I've grown more mature and comfortable with such situations because I've gone through it. However, back then it was pretty traumatizing."
At the root of the issue, Jones believes, was turmoil at Legendary Pictures--the studio which is the producer of World of Warcraft . "It was mostly studio politics. We all know that Legendary experienced a turbulent time when we were developing buy WOW WoTLK Classic Gold ," the director affirms. "They were associated with Warner Bros. They quit Warner Bros. and joined Universal. They were sold to Wanda the Chinese conglomerate. They lost or replaced many of their production staff midway through the film."
