The shaman can be an amazing class with possibly the most unique ability - the ability to take on many roles in a group. The shaman works his spells to create a DPS, acts as a healer and can also turn into a tank. The Shaman is classified as the off line healing class usually taking care of damage dealers with them.
Healing Role
The shaman's healing role is very important as he provides the Shamans a place to heal themselves with spells much like a Priest's Discipline Priest. These healing spells mostly heal the shaman and restore his health whereas the spells do damage to others, a group or other players.
If you want to level quickly you must choose to be a Shaman. One of the first things I noticed in the shaman class is that it is possible to go middle or even back as a healer. You may be able to do this if you wish to specialize in being a healer.
You will also have a choice to either specialize as a DPS or a tank. The down side to this is that it will mean taking up 2 spots in your group. However, if you select to specialize as a DPS you will have a lot more options when it comes to talent building, a valuable talent build nevertheless.
Shaman PvP
The shaman is classified as a heavy ranged DPS class. In general, shamans do very well in PvP. Whether doing battlegrounds, arena or in Rated Battlegrounds, the shaman will have an outstanding effect on the outcome.
The shaman is extremely difficult to kill with and can deal a great amount of damage. It is advisable to avoid the shaman when fighting. The key to beating the shaman is being able to take away its mana in the quickest time possible and a shamans lack of mana is problematic for any opponent.
The shaman will occasionally drop Totems which are difficult to dislodge. They're not use to deal a lot of damage but every totem does have a certain amount of health and most can be eventually killed. Nature and arcane totems are the easiest to dislodge and should be used to take out the other team members if you can't kill the shaman. You will have to use 1 talent point for each totem.
Shamans have the ability to take and deal damage like no other class besides the Paladin. When a shaman lands a melee damage ability, he must immediately wait for his target to die or have a healer on top of him in order to get the healing effect. This is a difficult change for most players and makes the shaman a great farming target, since undead and demons don't have healing abilities.
The shaman will have to hunt for a long time if you don't let him capture you first. Since he is at a great distance, he will have the ability to hunt you down without much of a hassle. It is advisable to attack the shaman when he is alone.
When battling the shaman, it is best to use an attribute of slow in nature. The shaman uses fury, it is the attribute that increases the damage of the shaman. When an attribute becomes slow, the effect can last for a few seconds but over time becomes less and less.
When fighting against the shaman, it is best to use an ability of Stealth which will give you a chance to appear before the shaman and as you do this you will be able to do more damage to him. Make sure you don't press too much damage though. If you end up by damaging the shaman, he will be able to counter-damage you with his Earth Shock ability.
Shamans are mostly located in the Outland. They have been sighted in Nagrand and in Blade's Edge Mountains' along the way to the Shadowmoon Valley.
Shamans are related to the Warrior in the World of Warcraft, even though the warrior is the only class that can Appearance to be mana burned.
