According to Hamas, Saleh Al-Arouri, a top commander of the organization, was slain in an incident on Tuesday in southern Beirut, Lebanon. Despite being reported by a US official to CNN, Israel did not take credit for the strike. Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of Hamas, called Arouri's death a "cowardly assassination," and the Houthi rebels in Yemen, who have been attacking ships in the Red Sea, also denounced the crime. Although a senior source cautioned that the conflict will persist throughout the year, Israel's military said on Monday that it will start removing thousands of soldiers from Gaza this week. According to the Ministry of Health, which is under the control of Hamas, Israeli attacks on Gaza have resulted in the deaths of at least 22,185 Palestinians.
