Israel seizes vital Gaza border crossing and commences attack on Rafah.
Israeli forces have seized control of Gaza's Rafah border crossing, cutting off a key route for humanitarian aid and a possible haven for civilians fleeing a construction attack. The Israeli military announced on Tuesday that it had taken "operational control" of the Gaza side of the border crossing that connects the embattled territory to Egypt. The blocking of the critical route and the placement of tanks in the heart of Rafah are seen as demonstrations of Israel's intention to continue its assault on the southern city despite ongoing truce talks.
WHO: Measles cases increased 79% worldwide in the past year
On Tuesday, February 20, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned about the rapid increase in measles cases. Globally, there were more than 306,000 cases in the year, up 79% from 2022.
