Pro-democracy demonstrators in Hong Kong and the Black Lives Matter movement have previously used these venues for protest. For those who are unable or unable to participate in direct demonstrations, they might offer another way to express their participation. Additionally, game makers can produce their games with political overtones. However, there are still concerns about the extent to which these demonstrations in video games have a real-world impact; some have called them performative clicktivism.
