Iran and Israel seem to be returning to "proxy warfare" following a frontal conflict.
The world's attention may now shift back to Gaza, according to political analyst Tamer Qarmout, as the conflict between Iran and Israel appears to have reverted to its classic shadow war one day after suspected Israeli drones were shot down in Iran. Qarmout, an assistant professor of public policy at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, stated, "This round of direct military confrontation is over; now we're back to the previous rules of engagement, proxy warfare." According to Qarmout, this entails gunfire between Israel and Lebanon, Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, and attacks on armed organizations supported by Iran in Iraq and Syria. “Now the center of attention is going back to Gaza where there is an expectation that there will be a military operation in Rafah,” Qarmout said.
