The USGS stated that a strong 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Japan. Authorities in Japan issued a tsunami warning, advising people living in the impacted areas to seek higher ground. For the coastal regions of the prefectures of Ishikawa, Niigata, and Toyama, the Japan Meteorological Agency explicitly issued tsunami alerts. According to the weather agency, tsunamis up to five meters high are predicted to affect Noto in Ishikawa Prefecture.
