New laws on treason, espionage, external meddling, state secrets, and sedition were included in the Safeguarding National Security Law, which was passed on Tuesday. New authorities, according to Chief Executive John Lee, are required to preserve Hong Kong's standing. Critics claim they will be used to stifle dissent further and are overly ambiguous.
