"Israeli actions in Gaza amount to genocide," argues a former PLO legal advisor.
Diana Buttu, a Palestinian lawyer and former legal counselor to the Palestine Liberation Organization, has criticized Israeli military activities in Gaza. She believes that displacing civilians without providing bare essentials is prohibited under international law. Buttu emphasized the relevance of international legal processes in dealing with the problem, ongoing legal developments, and their potential long-term implications. She questioned Israel's professed intentions, accusing them of committing genocide and ethnic cleansing. Despite Israel's claims to limit civilian losses, Buttu noted extensive bombing of hospitals and schools as proof of genocide on the ground. She also spoke about Israel's strategic goals and the ongoing battle in Gaza, highlighting Palestinian resilience against Israeli forces and exploring the potential use of military activities as bargaining chips in cease-fire negotiations.

War in Gaza: Israeli forces press deeper into the north and south of the strip
The Israeli force has advanced deeper into northern and southern Gaza, re-entering the densely populated city of Jabalia in the north. The claimed goal is to prevent Hamas from reestablishing its capabilities, but the increasing civilian casualties indicate a different tale. Displaced Palestinians express sadness and anger as attacks continue. Meanwhile, Israeli forces escalate their attacks in southern Gaza, edging closer to a possible full-scale assault on Rafah. The United Nations human rights head strongly condemns such measures, citing violations of international humanitarian law and judicial decisions. Many Palestinians have been evacuated yet again, this time to a designated 'humanitarian zone' that lacks basic supplies.

A video that has been posted online depicts a large number of Palestinians leaving the facility. Hundreds of displaced people, medical personnel, and patients are taking refuge. The health ministry in Gaza issued a statement in which it declared that the lives of medical personnel, patients, and internally displaced persons within the medical complex were the responsibility of the Israeli occupation. Using made-up stories to "deceive the world and justify the storming of al-Shifa," it goes on to declare that the Israeli operation is a blatant breach of international humanitarian law.
