Scientists in Antarctica warn of Bird Flu outbreak as penguin cases confirmed
Scientists in the Antarctic are warning of the spread of the deadly H5N1 avian flu virus. The disease was first detected on the frozen continent's mainland last month. It has since been detected in local penguin and cormorant populations. The spread of the virus has raised alarms about the potential impact on the region's substantial penguin colonies. The outbreak has decimated bird populations worldwide. It also hit South American wild bird and marine mammal populations hard. The Chilean Antarctic Institute (INACH) organized an expedition in the region. It announced this week that it had detected new positive bird flu cases in the area. The positive cases included nine Adelie penguins and one Antarctic cormorant. The virus was first found in skua seabirds on the Antarctic mainland last month. The outbreak may promote and increase the rate of disease transmission among various bird colonies

• US and UK forces struck Yemeni Houthi military installations. The primary concern
The Houthis, who targeted cargo ships in the Red Sea with Iran's help, have military bases in Yemen. On the evening of January 12, US and British aircraft and warships assaulted these installations. The US Air Force said that almost 60 strikes were made on 16 targets in all.
• Yemen: Following US and British airstrikes against the Houthis, the UN head urges "all parties" to prevent "escalation." Early on Friday, the United States and the United Kingdom struck the Houthis in Yemen as a show of support for the Palestinians in Gaza, following weeks of strikes by these rebels against Red Sea marine trade.

Ramadan at Al Aqsa: Access to the sacred site is restricted to worshippers
Despite the limitations imposed by the Israeli occupation, thousands of Palestinians attended the prayers in the Al Aqsa Mosque. There were occupying troops stationed in the Old City and at the entrance to the Al Aqsa Mosque. Many civilians were searched when they arrived at the Al Aqsa Mosque to pray.
Israeli soldiers have withdrawn from parts of northern Gaza, including the Jabalia refugee camp. However, they may still return whenever they choose. Perhaps a tactical retreat is the most fair definition of what is happening right now. The troops caused damage and ruin in the refugee camp. Up to 70% of it is now in ruins. This includes public buildings, schools, hospitals, clinics, and private houses. People are returning to check on their homes to see what they can recover, but it is all in vain; there is nothing to save. Paramedics and civil defense teams are currently attempting to retrieve bodies in previously inaccessible places. The dead are being transported to Kamal Adwan Hospital and other hospitals that are entirely out of operation. They act just as a morgue for the bodies. Israeli soldiers withdrew from the region but did not proclaim the conclusion of combat operations in northern Gaza. This implies they might return, with a high risk of killing more people and wreaking havoc.

Extreme winter in Mongolia: Millions of livestock animals are lost by herders
In Mongolia, nomadic pastoralists are tallying the expenses of one of the harshest winters in over fifty years. Glows minus fifty degrees Celsius caused thick snow and ice to cover most of the nation. More than half of the cattle that supported pastoral villages were gone; this was a critical component of their way of life.
