Two children were killed in an Israeli strike in Rafah.
The Israeli military is attacking residential areas across the Gaza Strip, and civilian casualties are increasing by the day. Over 34,500 Palestinians have been killed during the nearly seven-month war. One of the most recent attacks, an air strike on Rafah in the south, killed at least two children. Israel has increased its aerial bombardment on the city, raising concerns about a massive ground offensive. There are around 1.5 million forcibly displaced Palestinians sheltering there.
Flash flood warnings and heavy rain sweep the gulf.
The rain is coming down hard. Major highways in the United Arab Emirates have flooded, leaving cars abandoned on Dubai's roads. The rain that began overnight left massive piles on the streets, while gusts of wind disrupted planes at Dubai International Airport.

War in Gaza: Israeli forces press deeper into the north and south of the strip
The Israeli force has advanced deeper into northern and southern Gaza, re-entering the densely populated city of Jabalia in the north. The claimed goal is to prevent Hamas from reestablishing its capabilities, but the increasing civilian casualties indicate a different tale. Displaced Palestinians express sadness and anger as attacks continue. Meanwhile, Israeli forces escalate their attacks in southern Gaza, edging closer to a possible full-scale assault on Rafah. The United Nations human rights head strongly condemns such measures, citing violations of international humanitarian law and judicial decisions. Many Palestinians have been evacuated yet again, this time to a designated 'humanitarian zone' that lacks basic supplies.
An Israeli airstrike on a mosque in northern Gaza claimed at least five lives.
Five months have passed since Israel's horrific war on Gaza. Over 13,000 children have been among the 30,717 Palestinians who have died. Additionally, the UN has cautioned that efforts to bring relief vehicles into Gaza are faltering as casualties rise. According to Gaza's health ministry, hunger has claimed the lives of at least 20 children.

US: A large fire breaks out at a famous seaside pier, and an abandoned restaurant catches fire
Firefighters attended to a large fire that started at a California beach. As firemen battled the blaze from below and from the ground, sending several water drops from helicopters to douse the flames, plumes of smoke could be seen over the pier.
Regarding Israel's Rafah offensive, South Africa urgently requests the International Court of Justice.
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has been requested by the South African government to assess whether Israel's proposal to prolong military operations in Rafah "requires that the court uses its power to prevent further imminent breach of the rights of Palestinians in Gaza." The court "may at any time decide to examine proprio motu whether the circumstances of the case require the indication of provisional measures which ought to be taken or complied with by any or all of the parties," according to a statement. In the statement, the South African government expressed its extreme worry over the large-scale deaths, injuries, and destruction that have already occurred and will continue to result from the unprecedented military onslaught against Rafah. This would be a grave and irreversible violation of the Genocide Convention as well as the January 26, 2024, court order. Given the daily death toll in Gaza, South Africa believes this topic will receive the requisite urgency, the statement continued.
