British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's Conservative Party has suffered a significant defeat in municipal elections. The polls come just months before a parliamentary election. While the main opposition Labour Party increased its vote share, smaller parties and independents performed well.
8 million internally displaced Sudanese since April of last year - World at War
For the last eleven months, the Republic of Sudan—the third-largest country in Africa—has been devastated by conflict. On April 15, hostilities broke out between the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, or RSF, and the Sudanese armed forces. Following the toppling of former strongman Omar Al-Bashir in 2019, the army under Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the RSF under Mohamed Hamadan Dagalo shared authority with civilians. Additionally, the army and RSF collaborated to carry out a coup in 2021. However, the planned integration of the paramilitary RSF into the regular army—a politically motivated shift plan approved by the international community—caused a deterioration in ties between the army and the RSF. More than 8 million people have been displaced by the conflict since it started in mid-April. It has also destroyed the capital city of Khartoum, sparked a humanitarian catastrophe, and led to ethnically motivated killings in Darfur. The Sudanese army now claims to have retaken the state broadcaster's Omdurman headquarters on March 12th, marking the biggest victory over rival paramilitary group RSF. Memorial demolished: In St. Petersburg, mourners placed flowers for Alexey Navalny
In Russia, a flower memorial to opposition leader Alexey Navalny was destroyed. Overnight, unidentified individuals took flowers that had been placed at the monument honoring victims of political repression in Saint Petersburg. There are also reports of other tributes being destroyed. Around the country, Russians attempting to grieve were detained by police. According to prison officials, Navalny passed away on Friday in an Arctic prison colony from what they refer to as "sudden death syndrome."

War in Gaza: Relief workers were slain while delivering food to those "on the verge of starvation."
An Israeli airstrike has killed six foreign relief workers and a Palestinian driver. The American humanitarian organization World Central Kitchen (WCK) declared on Tuesday that one of its employees had been killed in an Israeli military "targeted attack." Palestine, Australia, Poland, the United Kingdom, and a citizen of the United States and Canada were among the deceased. As WCK's employees were transporting food from their most recent shipment to Gaza—where Israel's offensive has driven hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to the verge of starvation—they were attacked. In the central town of Deir el-Balah, there was footage of the dead at a hospital. A few of them had on safety gear bearing the charity's emblem. UNICEF spokeswoman Tess Ingram said that following the deaths of seven relief workers in an Israeli airstrike, safety concerns for humanitarian workers are once again a priority. We're all very concerned about it. We recently held a meeting to discuss it here," she said. This tragic event brings the total number of individuals killed in the war to almost 30,000, including 174 UN colleagues. Thus, we are having a dismal day here. According to Ingram, peacekeeping forces and humanitarian organizations have mechanisms in place for collaboration to prevent attacks like this one. Here in the Gaza Strip, that isn't working. We've been letting people know for some time now that it's not working and that we're not receiving the necessary security assurances. The fact that these folks died while merely attempting to bring food to those who were about to go hungry makes the situation even worse. It is an inconceivable loss.
In southern Gaza, an Israeli strike claimed the life of the boss of Al Jazeera's bureau in Gaza, his eldest son. While traveling in southern Gaza with other reporters, Hamza al-Dahdouh, an Al Jazeera journalist and videographer, was hit by a drone. A third reporter suffered injuries, and Mustafa Thuraya, a freelance journalist, also perished.
