Scientists in Antarctica warn of Bird Flu outbreak as penguin cases confirmed

Scientists in the Antarctic are warning of the spread of the deadly H5N1 avian flu virus. The disease was first detected on the frozen continent's mainland last month. It has since been detected in local penguin and cormorant populations. The spread of the virus has raised alarms about the potential impact on the region's substantial penguin colonies. The outbreak has decimated bird populations worldwide. It also hit South American wild bird and marine mammal populations hard. The Chilean Antarctic Institute (INACH) organized an expedition in the region. It announced this week that it had detected new positive bird flu cases in the area. The positive cases included nine Adelie penguins and one Antarctic cormorant. The virus was first found in skua seabirds on the Antarctic mainland last month. The outbreak may promote and increase the rate of disease transmission among various bird colonies

Gold prices reach record highs amid increasing worldwide demand.

China is on a gold-buying spree. For 18 months, the People's Bank of China has consistently increased its gold reserves, the longest buying streak on record. This strategic decision mirrors a global trend: central banks worldwide, particularly in emerging nations such as China, Turkey, and India, are amassing gold at an unprecedented rate.

At Tokyo's Haneda airport, a Japan Airlines aircraft carrying 379 passengers caught fire on the runway following a collision with a coast guard aircraft.
Tuesday at Tokyo's Haneda Airport, a passenger plane and a Japanese Coast Guard aircraft crashed and caught fire on the runway.

Before the entire aircraft was consumed by fire, Tetsuo Saito, the minister of transportation, verified that all 379 passengers aboard Japan Airlines flight JAL-516 had safely evacuated. Five crew members perished, while the coast guard plane's pilot managed to escape, according to Saito.

A significant fire and smoke explosion was captured on local TV footage of the Japan Airlines aircraft as it taxied after landing. Then, there was a fire in the vicinity of the wing. An hour later, footage revealed the airliner entirely on fire.
According to Kyodo, the Coast Guard aircraft was scheduled to travel to Niigata to give relief supplies to those impacted by the tragedy. The incident occurred just one day after a series of earthquakes shook western Japan, killing over 50 people in the Ishikawa prefecture.

PM Prachanda of Nepal receives a parliamentary vote of confidence, his third victory in the last 14 months.

The CPN Maoist, led by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal of Nepal, has broken away from the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led Nepali Congress and allied themselves with the CPN-UML, led by KP Sharma Oli. The three septuagenarians have dominated Nepal's political scene and pulled strings for years. This is in a nation where youth (under 4 make up more than 40% of the population. Real problems like young employment and welfare are pushed aside by the political upheaval.

Reports of Israeli settlers blocking humanitarian aid trucks to Gaza

Israeli settlers have been repeatedly blocking the humanitarian aid trucks heading to Gaza after leaving from Ashdod port, 38km (24 miles) north of the Strip. The settlers are calling on the Israeli government to prevent the flow of aid supplies to the besieged enclave, despite signs of famine across the territory, unless they can restore the Israeli captives from the territory. The vast majority of humanitarian convoys have been inspected by the Israeli military to guarantee that there isn’t any material that can be smuggled in and to ensure that all the aid supplies will be delivered to the people.
