Russia invites Palestine-related groups to the Munich Security Conference in Moscow.
The prime minister of the Palestinian Authority (PA) claims that Russia has invited Palestinian groups to a meeting on February 26 in Moscow and that the PA is prepared to negotiate with Hamas. Russia invites all Palestinian factions to the summit that will take place in Moscow on the 26th of this month. At the Munich Security Conference, Mohammad Shtayyeh said, "We will see if Hamas is ready to come to the ground with us." "We are prepared to interact. It's a different story if Hamas is not. He stated, "We need Palestinian unity," adding that Hamas has to fulfill specific requirements to be included in that unity. International leaders have pushed Israel to let in desperately needed relief supplies into Gaza. According to Shtayyeh, while European nations today have differing opinions, they all agree that hostilities must be immediately stopped.
8 million internally displaced Sudanese since April of last year - World at War
For the last eleven months, the Republic of Sudan—the third-largest country in Africa—has been devastated by conflict. On April 15, hostilities broke out between the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, or RSF, and the Sudanese armed forces. Following the toppling of former strongman Omar Al-Bashir in 2019, the army under Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the RSF under Mohamed Hamadan Dagalo shared authority with civilians. Additionally, the army and RSF collaborated to carry out a coup in 2021. However, the planned integration of the paramilitary RSF into the regular army—a politically motivated shift plan approved by the international community—caused a deterioration in ties between the army and the RSF. More than 8 million people have been displaced by the conflict since it started in mid-April. It has also destroyed the capital city of Khartoum, sparked a humanitarian catastrophe, and led to ethnically motivated killings in Darfur. The Sudanese army now claims to have retaken the state broadcaster's Omdurman headquarters on March 12th, marking the biggest victory over rival paramilitary group RSF. Since shortly after hostilities broke out in mid-April, the RSF had possessed the headquarters. Details are brought to you by Mohammed Saleh.
Israeli politicians urge the EU and UK to acknowledge the Palestinian state for regional peace.
A group of eminent Israeli public personalities, including former ambassadors and academics, has asked European Union countries and the United Kingdom to recognize a Palestinian state immediately, citing historic justice values and the necessity for regional peace. Alon Liel, former Director of Israel's Foreign Ministry and ambassador to South Africa and one of the letter's signatories, underlined the necessity of diplomatic solutions above military action in dealing with Israel's current issues. He expressed concern about Israel's international reputation and the potential consequences of taking a military approach. Alon raised concern over recent developments, such as Egypt's apparent backing for a genocide lawsuit against Israel, warning that it could have serious diplomatic ramifications for Israel's Middle Eastern relations.
