New authorities, according to Chief Executive John Lee, are required to preserve Hong Kong's standing. Critics claim they will be used to stifle dissent further and are overly ambiguous.

Witnesses reported by the Wafa news agency said that an Israeli airstrike on an aid truck in Deir el-Balah, in the central Gaza Strip, resulted in at least nine fatalities and numerous injuries. According to Al Jazeera sources, the Israeli bombing struck a Kuwaiti association's truck on al-Rashid Street in the Brook neighborhood. In the previous 24 hours, the Israeli army also bombed homes throughout southern Gaza, killing at least 90 people.
