UN special envoy charges Israel of committing "genocide" in the Gaza War.
According to Francesca Albanese, Israel has committed three of the five crimes specified in the UN Genocide Convention, which are killing members of a particular group, seriously injuring one's body or mind, and purposefully creating conditions in life that are intended to cause one's physical destruction, both whole and in part. She also discovered that high Israeli military and government figures had declared their willingness to commit genocide, which was followed by the approval and implementation of genocide. According to Albanese, these actions are part of a "settler-colonial process of erasure" that has lasted for more than 70 years. She recommends - among other things - an immediate arms embargo on Israel. And for member states to support South Africa in its attempt to prosecute Israel at the International Court of Justice.
