Volcano Iceland: a state of emergency is declared as lava engulfs the town. As lava from an erupting volcano overtook a nearby town, Iceland's prime minister proclaimed a state of emergency. Many of the houses in the fishing town of Grindavik caught fire as molten lava rushed into it. The previous day, the final citizens left after the government ordered the town to be evacuated.
